One of the few in Bergen County
Japanese Head Spa in New Jersey
A 60–90 minute scalp ritual — analysis, deep cleansing, a warm-water cascade and an extended massage — in a private studio in Norwood, NJ. Guests drive from across Bergen County for this. Most say the same thing after: "I had no idea I needed that."
The ritual
Ninety minutes, five movements.
- 01
Scalp analysis
We begin with a camera-assisted look at your scalp — oil balance, buildup, circulation — so the treatment is built for your scalp, not a generic routine.
- 02
Deep cleansing
A gentle exfoliating treatment lifts away product buildup, excess oil and dead skin that daily shampooing leaves behind.
- 03
The warm cascade
The signature moment: a continuous warm-water rinse that most guests describe as the most calming part of the ritual.
- 04
Extended massage
A long, unhurried therapeutic massage of the scalp, neck and shoulders — releasing the tension that gathers exactly where you carry your day.
- 05
Mask & finish
A nourishing hair mask tailored to your hair, followed by a blow-dry. You leave relaxed, with your hair finished and your scalp genuinely clean.
Why it's hard to find
A facial for your scalp — still rare in New Jersey.
The Japanese head spa requires dedicated equipment, trained hands, and a room quiet enough to disappear into — which is why so few studios offer the full ritual. At Lavant it fits naturally: we never double-book, so your session is genuinely private and genuinely unhurried. We're 10 minutes from Closter, Northvale and Harrington Park, and an easy drive from anywhere in Bergen County or Rockland County, NY.

Questions we hear
What exactly is a Japanese head spa?
It is a multi-step scalp treatment that originated in Japan, combining scalp diagnosis, deep cleansing, targeted treatment, a warm-water rinse, and an extended therapeutic massage of the scalp, neck and shoulders. Think of it as a facial for your scalp, with a level of relaxation closer to a massage than a shampoo.
How long does a session take?
Plan for 60 to 90 minutes depending on the option you book. Every session ends with a nourishing hair mask and a blow-dry, so you leave with your hair finished — not damp.
What are the benefits?
Clients book head spa sessions for oily or flaky scalps, product buildup, tension headaches, thinning-hair concerns, and dull hair — and many simply for the deep relaxation. Healthy hair starts at the scalp, and regular scalp care shows in your hair over time.
Is it good for people with thinning hair?
A head spa does not regrow hair, but it creates the healthiest possible environment for the hair you have: a clean, stimulated, well-circulated scalp. Many clients with thinning concerns make it a monthly ritual, and your therapist can recommend home care for your scalp type.
Where can I get a Japanese head spa in New Jersey?
Authentic Japanese head spa treatments are still rare in New Jersey. Lavant Salon & Spa in Norwood (Bergen County) is one of the few studios offering the full ritual — scalp camera analysis, cleansing, massage and mask — in a private, quiet setting. We are 10 minutes from Closter, Northvale and Harrington Park, and an easy drive from most of Bergen County and Rockland County, NY.
How often should I get one?
For a specific scalp concern, every 3–4 weeks at first. As a maintenance and relaxation ritual, most clients come every 4–8 weeks. Your therapist will suggest a cadence after seeing your scalp analysis.
